Translation: To your health!
It’s been a wild week for mine. With more than a gentle nudge from my cousin-in-law, Jenna, I finally went to the chiropractor to take care of my neck and back problems that have plagued me for more years than I care to admit. And while it felt good to be doing something about it (wow, it’s amazing what a good spinal adjustment can do!), I took a great big reaming from the doctor for waiting so long to do it. It’s difficult to hear that your body is deteriorating because you neglected it so badly. I don’t do well with chastisement, even if it’s for my own good.
But my body must have decided that being healthy is over-rated because Tuesday morning I suddenly developed the most excruciating stomach pains. They really seemed to come out of nowhere. In the course of an hour they went from 3 to 10 on the pain scale. We’re talking scream out loud, bend over in the fetal position painful. I thought at one moment an alien was going to pop out of my stomach and shoot across the room, they were so bad. I don’t consider myself a wuss overall, but accompanied by a fever, I felt I should seek medical help. A few blood tests and an ultra sound later, he ruled out the suspected gall bladder problems I thought I might be facing. So strange. I still don’t know what it was all about but I’m glad it’s over. Many, many thanks to the friends and family who called, helped out with Renny, and sent words of concern my way.
So now, the rest of 2009 should be pain-free, right?
How about you? What are you doing to improve your health this year?
