I finally convinced Colin that I needed a Vitamix (how else am I going to make Maddie homemade baby food? Surely not with a regular old blender!) and picked one up for myself as an early Mother’s Day gift. It’s my new favorite toy! And I love that I got it for a fraction of the cost thanks to Costco and their annual rebate check. It’s fun being able to make a smoothie any time I want. Sorry, Blenders in the Grass, to lose you some business.

I have literally had a smoothie of some sort every day since. Very Berry with strawberries and blueberries, PiƱa Colada, Strawberries and Cream… the choices are endless. But one that I’m now addicted to: the Green Smoothie. I can’t get enough of these! My mother-in-law hooked me ages ago and I’ve been pining for a blender to make them ever since.

OK, don’t balk at this before hearing me out. It does contain things that you wouldn’t normally consider drinking in liquid form, but I promise you that you can’t taste they’re in there! Super good for you and great tasting, seriously. Warren loves them, too. Go on give it a try:

Pam’s Green Smoothie
(measurements approximate)

2 cups water
large handful of spinach
small handful of kale
1.5 cups frozen fruit (any kind, but if you add red your smoothie will be brown!)
1/4 cup peeled carrots
1/2 banana, frozen
1/2 apple
1 Tbs. wheat germ (opt.)

Blend thoroughly!

It’s not just for St. Patrick’s Day, folks!

  1. It’s so great that you posted about this cause everyday for the last week or so I’ve been counting my fruits and veggies and wishing for something like this to eat every morning so I could get more in, in a day! i wish for this too…thanks for the tips!

  2. Yay vitamix!!! Luke got me mine 1.5 ago as a Christmas present and I LOVE IT! We used it everyday for almost a year and now it’s more like 3-4 times a week. But you should totally try the soups, the sauces, etc. SO FUN! We call our green juice, “Jungle Juice.” The kids (Lily and Cousins) get a kick out it.
