Maybe it’s because it’s so close to my birthday, but I love this holiday. It represents all of the best of summer, to me.
We started out with our ward’s pancake breakfast with a beautiful tribute to the soldiers who help secure our freedoms, followed by a flag raising ceremony, and then, of course, pancakes.
The rest of the day was spent being completely, 100% lazy: lounging around, napping, watching movies. Dinner consisted of BBQ spare ribs we had to scrounge up at Ralph’s since Woody’s had the nerve to be closed.
We finished the holiday off with fireworks at Girsch Park. We had glow sticks, purchased for a buck at Michaels Craft Store, and bags of Pepperidge Farm Chessmen and Double Chocolate Milano cookies– a 2 year running family tradition. The kids LOVED it all. Such joy to see wide eyes and looks of wonder on the faces of our little ones.
Happy Birthday, America! I am thankful for the blessings of living in your beautiful land.
