As promised, here is the recipe to the “fail brownies,” though they typically don’t fail. This is our staple brownie recipe. I just can’t bring myself to make the premixed kind when I can have this sort of melted chocolatey goodness.
BAKER’S One Bowl Brownies
Prep time: 15 minutes
Bake: 35 minutes
4 squares BAKER’S Unsweetened Chocolate
3/4 cup (1-1/2 sticks) butter or margarine
2 cups sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup flour
1 cup coarsely chopped nuts (opt.)
PREHEAT oven to 350°F. Line 13×9-inch baking pan with foil, with ends of foil extending over sides of pan. Grease foil.
MICROWAVE chocolate and butter in large microwaveable bowl on HIGH 2 min. or until butter is melted. Stir until chocolate is completely melted. Stir in sugar. Blend in eggs and vanilla. Add flour and nuts; mix well. Spread into prepared pan.
BAKE 30 to 35 min. or until wooden toothpick inserted in center comes out with fudgy crumbs. (Do not overbake.) Cool in pan on wire rack. Remove brownies from pan, using foil handles. Cut into squares. Store in tightly covered container at room temperature.
Cook’s notes: I usually reduce the sugar to 1.5 cups without serious flack
