Sea Dragons vs. The Jedis

Warren’s first soccer game was today. His team, the Sea Dragons (chosen to make the most of the salmon colored shirts) played against The Jedis. If you’ve never seen 4-year-olds playing soccer you’re missing out on some serious entertainment.

It seems that we have a “flower picker” — a player that spaces out until the ball comes his way– on our hands, just like Colin was as a kid. Warren was a hoot to watch. He had no clue what was going on most of the time. But he had a blast running around and purposefully falling down on the ground. He did score a goal, though it was on his own team. Good thing score doesn’t matter at this point! He had two headers that he didn’t realize were happening until the ball actually made contact with his head. The look on his face was priceless.

We asked him later if he enjoyed playing soccer. He said he did but admitted that running around all over the field felt a little crazy.

Family tradition stipulated that we get ice cream after the game. One of the highlights of the event, of course.

All in all, it was a great experience for him.

  1. Haha, Lucas starts this Saturday. I’m kinda nervous and excited. Excited for him, nervous that I have to coach(entertain) a group of 5-6 year olds.

  2. I love the way his foot is on the ball in this picture. Is it just me, or is this the age when parenting REALLY starts to get fun?
