First Day of Nursery

Maddie is 18 months old. She now qualifies for Nursery, our church’s Sunday program for children 18 months to 3 years. That’s two hours of play, snacks, and lesson time sans parents (in theory). But, unlike Renny who went right in, we knew we were going to have to ease her into it.

We thought she would scream the whole time but, surprisingly, there were minimal tears. For Maddie, that is. She still screeched loud enough that I could hear her from the Primary room (and that was with Colin standing right next to her) but it was short-lived. She enjoyed playing with the toys and actually sat in the chair for both lesson time and singing time.

Colin and I switched at the third hour so I got to see her eat snack at the table like a big girl with the 10 other toddlers and forage around the play yard for toys. As long as she could see me, she was fine.

I have a feeling this is going to be a long transition process. But there’s hope that she’ll be able to do it after all.

  1. It’s amazing how every child reacts to nursery differently. We had two new 18-month olds in nursery on Sunday and they both screamed too. I wish Maddie were in my nursery. She is such a cutie!

  2. I’m so glad she didn’t have a meltdown!! I hope she just gets to like it more and more. Hey, I’d like to just sit around and play and sing and eat snacks at church!
