But don’t you live there?
Yes, but we don’t always have the time to take advantage of all that’s offered here. Often we’re away visiting friends or family on the weekends, or attending the temple, or just busy, busy, busy with church activities to really enjoy our tourist town.
With the gorgeous, hot summer weather finally arriving, we decided to hit some of the popular events of the season. This weekend was the French Festival at Oak Park, a beautiful location for a day of fine Parisian food, music, and people watching. Who couldn’t use a little live accordion playing and some “La Vie en Rose” on a Saturday afternoon? Replicas of the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty completed that frenchy sort of feel. And I love me some crêpes so we made it our top priority to eat some. Though I make them often, it’s always better when I don’t have to prepare them myself. I recommend the goat cheese and mushroom filling. C’est magnifique!
But if that wasn’t enough excitement for one day, we made another outing to the SB National Horse Show. We got there early enough to see the water truck and grader prepare the dirt field for jumping– almost as exciting for Warren as the actual competition. We watched as the horses were judged for grooming, some of them quite elaborately braided. The kids watched in awe as the riders guided their beautiful horses in graceful jumps over the hurdles. Warren has mentioned numerous times that he would love to participate in this (expensive) sport. We’re hoping he can just get his fill watching, for now. Maddie was just excited to see the beautiful animals and to continually make the grunting horse sound, pbrrrr. How’s that for an onomatopoeia?
Such a great day spent together as a family. Thank goodness we can enjoy these events in just a 10 minute drive. And that they’re absolutely free! Except the crêpes, of course.
