Today Maddie turned two. I don’t know who was more excited about it, Warren or Madeline. The first thing she said when I helped her out of her crib this morning was, “Eat cake!” But Warren rivaled her enthusiasm. He bounced around, wild with anticipation all morning and all afternoon. He even got himself kicked out of his Primary Sunday School class for a few moments. He just couldn’t contain his excitement.
It was a crazy, but fun day. We rushed home from church to throw together a quick lunch of leftovers, decorate her cat cake, fashioned after “Kitty,” and open her presents from Julianna, Grandma Tuki, and the three of us.
She was thrilled with all gifts: an old-school monkey doll called a “Monchhichi” (like I used to have when I was a kid), tights, ballet-like shoes, an instructional intro to ballet DVD, an honest-to-goodness Tinkerbell outfit, and a baby doll stroller.
She also couldn’t get enough cake. Like most toddlers, she was a little leery of the flame and seemed kind of frozen as we sung Happy Birthday in both Spanish and English. But once we took that candle out she was ready to eat.
This little girl is a riot. Funny, determined, smart, feisty, loving, tough-as-nails, adorable all rolled into a tiny frame.
Happy Birthday, Maddie! We are so grateful you are a thriving two-year-old!
