Maddie is no longer napping. And while I sometimes miss that blessed, though short, time of peace and quiet during the afternoon, as three little children slumbered away, this change is not so bad. I’m enjoying the return of the one-on-one time I’ve been missing with her since the boys came to us.
She could have continued napping. She wasn’t fighting it. It just wasn’t worth having her go down for an hour only to be up later that evening until well past 9PM. She mostly stayed in her room at night, singing “Happy Birthday,” “I Love to See the Temple,” and “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” to herself in the fading light. Cute as it sounded, it probably isn’t a good idea to have a sleep-deprived toddler running around the next day. Her occasional ventures from her sleeping quarters out to the living room were enough to put the daytime naps to an end for good.
Meanwhile, Jake and Joey are still taking two naps. Unfortunately, both times conflicted with Warren’s school drop off/pick up schedule. Usually, they would go down at at 2PM and sleep until 4PM. But since Warren gets out of school at 2:55PM that just wasn’t going to work.
I fretted doing it, but I decided to move their nap times up quite a bit. An hour and a half sooner, actually. I don’t know why I worried. These two boys could not be any more flexible. Within two days, they were successfully transitioned to the new schedule without any resistance. They are willing to go down right after lunch and fall asleep almost immediately when placed in their cribs. Such good boys!
Surprisingly, these nap time adjustments have been pretty successful. Thank heavens because some things have to go smoothly to be able to handle 3 small children all home at the same time!
